Dr. Hanson has been a trustee of Saybrook University, served on the board of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and was president of the board of FamilyWorks, a community agency. He began meditating in 1974, trained in several traditions, and leads a weekly meditation gathering in San Rafael, California. His work has been featured on the BBC, CBS, and NPR, and he offers the free Just One Thing newsletter with 150,000 subscribers, plus the online Foundations of Well-Being program in positive neuroplasticity that anyone with financial need can do for free.

Hi there! My name is Suzette Misrachi and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I love this series. Each individual has given me so many wonderful ideas. I try to practice mindfulness, compassion and everything in between in my clinical work with people who grew up with parents with a serious mental illness. I also try to teach them some of the skills that have been taught here. My work is often based on my research entitled: “Lives unseen: unacknowledged trauma of non-disordered, competent Adult Children Of Parents with a Severe Mental Illness”. This work led me to being invited to write brief articles on trauma and grief for mental health practitioners which I then offer for free to the general public. For those interested, just Google my name. I’m really enjoying this summit. It brings me closer to the outside world, now as I am self-quarantining due to the current Coroner virus emergency. Each presenter in this summit has a unique and lovely way of connecting despite having just a boring computer at that! It feels like we’ve known you all for years… Thanks to all the organisers for their generosity and to all those who very kindly presented this gift to us all. Thank you, I truly appreciate the clarification/assurance that this is something that will need to be practiced and trained within us. It´s difficult to explain in few words, and with my poor english, how important is for us from South America to acces to this teachings by free. It could be better if we can acces with spanish subtitles and if you could extend the hours available becouse we are having serius problems with WiFi in the quarantine. I practiced mindfulness for about 7 months last year but I found that I got increasingly anxious. I haven’t done it for a few months. I’ve been trying it again, since yesterday, and I still get a feeling of increased anxiety. I’m beginning to think that mindfulness meditation is not for me, and is actually counterproductive.
Note the care with which Rick speaks of choosing your object of focus and his emphasis on treating yourself gently.

This was great. I especially enjoyed the second half. ‘Knowing why you are doing this is an excellent tool to help one stay focused in the midst of a storm. At the end, I felt that I received a practical tool that I can apply immediately to my practice. I will definitely watch Rick Hanson’s other videos (after the summit). Thank you.
I was really into Dr. Hansons meditation and really feeling good afterwards. but then that clincial woman starting bringing up all negative stuff. about it and it tended to negate the experience. why didn’t she ask these questions before the mediation or in another session entirely. Maybe he could have a sparate experience just for clinical professional personal.
I liked it too. I meditate consistently but this was helpful and informative.
